Black Rock Mine
Raising safety and productivity
In the Northern Cape Province in South Africa, 80 kilometers from the town of Kuruman, the Black Rock Mine is located. What started as an outcrop on a hillock is today one of the country’s biggest field for manganese mining and is under a current expansion phase.
With the goal set to raise the level of safety and productivity, the mining company Assmang signed with Mobilaris Mining & Civil Engineering and Epiroc to install Mobilaris Mining Intelligence™. The system collects data in real time from production, planning, task dispatching, KPI’s and more.
“MMI will help to increase production and utilization. The solution enables an unprecedented opportunity for mining personnel to make right decisions faster than ever before”, says Pierre Becker, General Manager Black Rock Mine.
The installation was finalized in June of 2019 and became the first MMI installation in a mine utilizing room and pillar. The system is set to make significant improvements in employee safety, process efficiency and overall production.
“The globally acclaimed Situational Awareness together with Short Interval Control package will take their operations to the next level of performance gains”, says Andrew Main, Regional Business Line Manager, Underground Rock Excavation division for Southern Africa, Epiroc South Africa (Pty) Ltd.
The Black Rock Mine has been undergoing continuous improvement and expansion work. With the introduction of Mobilaris Mining Intelligence™, the South African manganese mine is ready to take yet another step moving forward into digitalization.
“This step is only the beginning and we are eager to follow Black Rock as a strategic partner on their journey into the future” says Bengt Jonsson, VP Sales, Mobilaris Mining and Civil Engineering AB.
